I recently purchase this bluetooth for 12 bucks from Amazon. It’s a great price for a basic bluetooth. I personally do not care all the fancy features that higher priced models have, I’m sure they are nice and may come in handy from time to time but I rather save the 60 dollars. It’s very easy to do the initial set-up and to operate it. Uses one button for all the funtions, such as answering a call, redialing last number, voice dialing (only if your phone has that feature)or rejecting a call and has separate volume buttons. It’s very clear at both ends, nobody has complained of not being able to hear me clearly. The bluetooth itself is very nice looking, small, light and it fit my ear perfectly. I would have givin this bluetooth 5 stars if it wasn’t for the packaging, I was not aware the Bulk Packaging meant Amazon would put the headset in a sandwich bag with a bad photo copy of the instructions which were barely readable almost if I had gotten from a Craker Jack’s box. But I guess if it saves you a couple bucks. I was so impressed with the headset that a bought 2 more pieces but from Newegg price was better and the packaging was more proffesional, it had a way better version of instructions.

These are cheap and reliable headsets. I’ve owned about six bluetooth headsets, some much more expensive, but this baby is very dependable and is there when I need it. It’s not very easy to lose (not very big but for some reason I’ve never lost this), sound loud and clear and great for use indoors. I’ve even used this outdoors and it provides good audio quality on my side, and okay quality for the other party. Obviously these are not noise-canceling or anything, so keep that in mind. I also like the hard plastic earloop which is reversible and almost indestructible. I love it compared to the flimsy earloops I have with some of my other bluetooth headsets. It fits my ear well and feels light but of solid quality.

It holds its charge well. Some of the cons I can think of are the short range – about 5 feet for me – and the looks (isn’t the best looking out there) and the big flashy blue light (I prefer more discreet blinking).

Overall, a solid reliable headset. I’d definitely buy another one when my current one dies or gets lost.

This is a very good unit. Although, after 5 feet the bluetooth looses signal with the phone. And the earpiece is not FLEXABLE, causing severe pain after about an hour of wear. If the ear peice was re vamped, and the range extended it would be the perfect bluetooth!

I don’t own any other Bluetooth headsets. This has been the only one I’va had for about 3 years running and it is as good as the first day I bought it. Its very ergonomic and comfortable to wear. Very simple to handle and the rounded edges make it less extravagant or garish as some other newer models that i’ve seen. Sound quality is perfect and has a great range. Of course, if you have to go through more than 2 or three walls in your home it degrades but that’s to be expected from any wireless device, especially bluetooth.

I’m pleasantly surprised at the talk time. It has lasted for more than 2 or 3 hours of straight talking and it definitely can last about 3 days on pure standby. I don’t think I can say anything more positive about the product without sounding like a corporate endorsement but it is a truly great product and the price is perfect. I originally bought mine in walmart for about $30 plus dollars and I don’t hesitate to recommend it to people that want to get their first and only wireless device.

The range of this bluetooth is very poor. You can’t walk more than 3ft away from it before it starts to sound flaky. The headset is comfortable and battery life is really good. Other problem I had was that when I use it while driving, people say that it sounds like i’m driving with the windows down when I’m actually not. I wouldn’t recommend this product because of the sound clarity and range. $10-$20 more will be worth it.

Great product. I have no problem hearing anyone and they can hear me just fine. Love that I can use it without needing the ear hook due to when I wear sunglasses it doesn’t hurt to have this on at the same time. The button to turn on and off is a little hard to push especially if the unit is in my ear and I want to end a call, I have to grab the whole thing and push the button to end a call but other than that it is a great earpiece.

This is not about the seller, but about a design issue that Plantronics has yet to address through this model (665). I purchased the 665 after my Plantronics 520 stopped recharging (I had it for about 9 months). The issue for the 520 was that the snap connector used in the recharger design (like a snap button on a shirt) sometimes stayed connected and sometimes didn’t according to the recharging indicator light–just before I replaced this unit, it connected for only seconds before the recharging indicator light turned off. I bought the 665 because I thought Plantronics had replaced this connector with a mini-USB, but unfortunately that was only partly true. The recharging plastic module (like a little plastic sleeve) that I could plug the 665 into used a mini-USB connector which maintained a snug, good connection. However, the plastic module used the same faulty snap adapter on its bottom as my previous 520 headset for connecting to the recharging cord which plugged into the power source. As a result, I had the same problem that I had with the 520–it didn’t stay connected according to the recharging indicator light. This second time around, the 665 wouldn’t fully charge from the time I received it!! The light would indicate it was connected for a few seconds and then would disconnect even though the snap connector was firmly snapped together. In researching this problem, it seems that I am not alone in having this problem. there appeared to be no easy fix, so I returned it.

MESSAGE TO PLANTRONICS: Please give up on the snap type connector that you are using for recharging–IT IS SIMPLY AN EXTREMELY POOR DESIGN WHICH DOESN’T WORK WELL AT ALL!!!!

Other feedback: Very comfortable, fits ear well, and good sound quality in and out. I would have kept the unit and been pretty happy had I been able to get a charge into it! With a working recharger connector, I would have rated this a 4 with no difficulty.

Hopefully sometime in the near future, Plantronics will wise up and use a recharging adapter design that will maintain a secure connection. Until that happens, I will not be purchasing any more of their bluetooth headsets!

    The good:

    - battery life is decent

    - features like redial, mute, voice command work well

    - volume range is perfect

    - The gel earpieces are comfortable

    - Excellent range. My phone was upstairs, and I was downstairs and I could continue my call just fine.

    - comes with both a car and usb charger.

    - again: usb charger

    The bad:

    - 5 months after I bought it, I started hearing crackling noise on all calls. I called plantronics, and they said they will replace it, but what happens after the warranty expires?

    - The gel earpiece keeps coming off and falling on the floor. I was sick of having to look for it and retracing my steps every time I wanted to use so I eventually glued it on.

    - That flashing LED must be the worst design decision ever. At night, it lights up the whole room, so I have to turn it off when I go to sleep. It’s also very distracting for people around you if you have it in your ear and for you if it’s in front of you on the table for example.

I would not buy it again or recommend buying this headset.

  9. Peter Anthan

Review from Peter Anthan for the Plantronics Discovery 665A Bluetooth Headset (Black,Silver)
    The Rating is:
I’ve had this for about a year now and the things I liked about it I still like — it’s small and light, mainly. The things I disliked about it at first have grated on me, and they are many. The design is lousy, basically. The ear gel attaches by clipping quite loosely to the earpiece, and it’s supposed to also secure the over-ear hoop if you use it. This setup is extraordinarily flimsy, with the ear gel falling out and getting lost easily. That means the hoop falls off, too. So you have to handle the whole apparatus very gingerly.

Add to this the need to carry the pocket clip in order to charge the earpiece either in the car or from the wall, and that’s a lot of little bits to have to remember just to use your bluetooth headset. I found myself forgetting the pocket clip, which serves no other practical purpose, and so not being able to recharge the earpiece.

The talk time dwindles quickly from the advertised 3-4 hrs., which is already nothing great. The unit’s buttons are tiny and take a lot of pressure to operate — not convenient when you’re dealing with something stuck into your ear.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this to a friend given the large selection of much better units out there. This is probably one to avoid.

The unit itself works fine, but it is horribly fragile! The earpieces popped off on me dozens of times and are all (3) gone so now I cannot use my device.
