Review from Mr. John Noble for the Epson Stylus Office B1100 A3 Printer With Individual Inks
The Rating is:
There are very few reviews on this printer out there at the moment. Having owned one for around 3 weeks and I have to say I am very pleased with the printer.
A number of points need to be made:
1/ This printer is large – especially when the paper guides are open. If you have a small computer desk – this will fill it! If you want an A3+ printer you much resign yourself to the fact it won’t be small.
2/ The box says up to 33 pages a minute – this is in draft mode, print is not to bad, but recommend normal text, a 30 page black and white document takes around 1:30 mins – which is not bad. Colour printing slows the machine down a great deal, although the results look very good. Photo printing really slows the B1100 down, 10x15mm takes 70 odd seconds, and an A3 print on best settings takes a staggering 12 mins. Although the wait is worth every moment. Crisp and clear, colours are true to life. Comparing other printers they all seem to take their time to produce a good top quality print so don’t let this ‘slowness’ put you off. The printer is quite noisy when picking up the paper, but it is reasonably quiet whilst printing.
3/ Having owned other brands printers, I cannot understand why I moved away from Epson in the first place. People complain about the price of the ink for Epson printers – I can tell you – you get a very good deal compared with other leading manufacturers. The 2 black cartridges contain 11.1ml each and you can pick them up for around $15 if you hunt for them. Colours are also 11.1ml and you can buy a multi-pack just short of $30. Some other manufacturers give you 3ml for cyan, 7 for yellow and charge you the same price. The first cartridges supplied with the printer are full – not the usual half full supplied with most. A lot of ink is used to prime the print head, the second and subsequent replacements will last much longer.
The B1100 is an absolute steal at the price – less than $150. You get a machine that is bomb proof, its built to last. Other A3+ printers in this price range tend to have a separate black, with a tri-colour cartridge – this printer has separate ones for each colour. It may be an office machine but its still and Epson Stylus printer, which means its got what it takes to blow you away with the quality of the print – especially photographs. Don’t let the speed put you off either – many other printers higher up the price range are not much faster when printing photos! Well done Epson – another cracking printer.

Was a bit concerned when ordering this printer, being a new model, I could find only one review, so I thought I would share my experiences so far.
I have only had the printer a few days, but so far I am very pleased. It is a replacement for an Epson 1290, to be used for printing mainly A3 drawings, and some photos and documents. The print speed is incredibly fast compared to my previous printers. In fine mode it produces very clear and detailed black-and-white drawings on plain paper at an impressive speed. No visible feathering of the ink. Photo quality takes longer, but they seem to be very good quality prints. I have not yet tried photo paper in it. The print outs are practically waterproof as well!
Overall I am impressed, a good choice, I hope nothing goes wrong.

I use this B1100 to run alongside the HP7000 Wide Format printer. Well, Epson print quality is still top notch, although text can be a little “fuzzy”. Print speeds are not an Epson strong point, the HP easily trouncing it. Same can be said for running cost, Epson cartridges have always been pricey. HP give excellent value with their higher capacity and cheaper cartridges. But as stated, when it comes to graphics, then Epson have the upper hand. Colours are well defined, with typical Epson detail to clarity. This is not a true photo printer, but match it to a print from the costlier R1800, rendition is superb. You will, however notice the lack of gloss optimser with the B1100.
The B1100 has a huge footprint, much larger than the HP7000, but again, the Epson folds away into a neat and attractive unit.Off white with grey casing mimics some Canon printers, and would actually look well at home with an Apple Mac. You’ll also notice that the price of the B1100 has fallen considerably compared to the HP7000. Noise levels are well subdued, much quieter in operation than the HP7000. However, previous experience has shown that HP products have a much greater service life. Build quality is top notch, solid and not flimsy. The HP 7000, whilst good looking in its’ own right, is not made as sturdy as the Epson. But as stated, five years down the line, I know that the HP will still be going strong, flimsy build or not. The cost factor is something to bear in mind, as the Epson apears to be great value compared to the HP7000. But factor in those running cost, and that advantage will soon make the more expensive HP a better proposition over time. When I need clear text, I use the HP 7000. If I want good detail and colour, then I use the Epson. But I am still vary wary of those running costs. That’s why the four star rating.

I bought this printer to replace an R1800 with some trepidation as the price is a lot lower. Mainly used for photo printing, Ink seems to last a lot longer than R18oo ink,as supplied colour balance is odd, so adjust the colour controls for best results.I am pleased with this printer it very quiet and gives results very near to the R1800 at a lot less cost.As a bonus it is pleasant to look at. This printer was later converted to a continuous ink system from city ink express(easy to do ) printer now prints easily as good as R1800 and ink is almost free.As an example of how well it prints a print from this has just won pic of the month at our camera club, not bad for a 4 ink printer. As a last tip it is best to use Epson software to print, not as good using Photoshop.

I purchased this printer to replace a 6 year old Epson Stylus P2000. Although the B1100 has a slightly larger footprint, it is very good value – less than half the price of a direct replacement. It is comparatively fast and I am pleased with it.
